plateau); in the Bauly canyon are kept three rocky villages locally known as
“Dieri” (from the Arab word ad deyar = home dug in the rock), respectively known
as “Little dieri”, “Great dieri” and “Hermit’s Dieri”, rocky settlements

The fourth day
On the first
travellers’ tracks (Goethe, Orwell, Jean Houel) who, between Eighteenth and
Nineteenth century visited the Sicily,
we’ll travel over again some exemplary places of the Hyblean coast; in fact the
stretch from Eloro to Vendicari presents either some important archaeological
testimonies (for example the Greek colony of Eloro, the old tuna – fishing nets
in Vendicari, the Vendicari Tower, the Byzantine basilica called “Trigona” and
a lot of farm nowadays disused), or coastal peculiar places as wide strands and
extended dunes, suggestive inlets and bogs behind the beach – nowadays
protected areas – destination of a migratory avifauna.
We’ll come back
in the late afternoon after the sunset.

|

|
|
The fifth day
Excursion at Pantalica,
exemplar place where interesting archaeological testimonies – an impressive
pre-Greek necropolis with 5000 graves as artificial little cave, an Arab aqueduct,
the prince’s palace, and place for the Byzantine cult – are immerse in a
splendid natural scenery: the canyon
formed by the Anapo River and by the Calcinara Stream. In the afternoon you’ll
visit the little town of Sortino in the neighbourhoods, a place where the
millenary Hyblean culture show herself
in the architecture and in the gastronomy, and where’s also possible
visiting a museum dedicated to the Character’s Theatre (Opera dei Pupi)
We’ll come back
in the sunset.

The sixth day
The route we’ll
do during the sixth day undoes between the ancient Noto ( the town before the
earthquake of the 1693) and the new Noto, the Baroque Noto. The ancient town,
situated on the headland Alveria, keeps the remains of the fortified town,
apart from an hermitage, the Hellenistic gymnasium, the handcrafted and rocky
installations for the tanning (XV° – XVI° th A.D.) and the Hebraic and paleo –
Christian necropolis.
We’ll come back
in the sunset.
